Characteristics of P355NH Steel Plate
High Strength: The P355NH steel plate exhibits high yield strength and tensile strength. The yield strength is typically not less than 355 MPa (specific values may vary with thickness), while the tensile strength ranges from 490 to 630 MPa.
Good Toughness: While maintaining high strength, the steel plate also demonstrates excellent toughness, making it resistant to brittle fracture under impact loads.
Hierarchical Mechanical Properties: The mechanical properties of the steel plate vary with thickness in a hierarchical manner. For instance, when the thickness is ≤16 mm, the yield strength is 355 MPa; for thicknesses between 16 and 35 mm, the yield strength remains at 355 MPa; however, as the thickness further increases, the yield strength decreases accordingly.
Outstanding Impact Toughness: At -20°C, 0°C, and +20°C, the impact energy of the P355NH steel plate is not less than 47 J (longitudinal specimens), indicating its exceptional low-temperature toughness.
Excellent Weldability: The P355NH steel plate possesses good weldability, allowing for easy welding using conventional welding techniques. This is attributed to its low carbon content and precise chemical composition control, which help reduce defects such as cracks and porosity during the welding process.
Processability: The steel plate exhibits good processability during both cold and hot working. In cold working, it is easy to cut, bend, and stamp; during hot working, it maintains good plasticity and toughness at high temperatures, facilitating forging and rolling processes.
Heat Treatment Adaptability: The P355NH steel plate is typically supplied in a normalized state, with the normalization temperature controlled between 900 and 950°C. This heat treatment method helps refine the grain structure of the steel plate, improving its mechanical properties and weldability.
High-Temperature Resistance: The P355NH steel plate has specified high-temperature properties, enabling it to maintain good strength and toughness in high-temperature environments. This makes it particularly suitable for manufacturing pressure vessels and boilers that need to operate at elevated temperatures.
Corrosion Resistance: Although the P355NH steel plate is not specifically designed as a corrosion-resistant steel, its chemical composition and heat treatment method provide it with a certain degree of corrosion resistance. In scenarios requiring higher corrosion resistance, surface treatments such as painting or galvanizing can further enhance its corrosion-resistant properties.
