ASTM A204 Gr.A Molybdenum Alloy Pressure Vessel Steel Plate
As a molybdenum-alloy steel plate for pressure vessels under the ASTM A204/A204M standard, A204 Gr.A is a low-alloy, high-strength material specifically designed for service conditions involving moderate temperatures (≤400°C) and moderate-to-high pressures.
Composition and Properties of A204 Gr.A:
Chemical Composition of A204 Gr.A:
Based on a foundation of low carbon (C ≤ 0.25%) and low phosphorus/sulfur (P/S ≤ 0.025%), the alloy achieves enhanced strength through the addition of manganese (Mn ≤ 0.90%), while molybdenum (Mo content: 0.45%–0.60%) serves to bolster corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength.
Mechanical Properties of A204 Gr.A:
Tensile Strength: 470–620 MPa; Yield Strength: ≥ 295 MPa; Elongation: ≥ 16% (over a 200 mm gauge length). In medium-temperature environments (e.g., 350°C–400°C), the material retains a high load-bearing capacity, thereby preventing failure due to high-temperature creep.
ASTM A204 Gr.A Manufacturing Process and Quality Control:
The production process for ASTM A204 Gr.A steel plates strictly adheres to ASTM standards, encompassing steps such as electric furnace smelting, LF furnace ladle refining, VD/VOD furnace vacuum treatment, continuous casting or ingot casting, plate heating, rolling, non-destructive testing, heat treatment, and surface quality inspection.
Through these processes, impurities and harmful elements are removed from the molten steel, thereby enhancing its purity and ensuring that the finished steel plates are free from internal defects such as cracks and porosity. This ultimately guarantees the quality and performance of the steel plates.
ASTM A204 Grade A steel is a high-quality carbon-manganese steel widely used in the manufacturing of pressure vessels and boilers. Industries such as power generation, petrochemical, and oil refining frequently utilize ASTM A204 Gr.A steel for constructing heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and boiler components.
