Characteristics of DIN 17102 WStE 255 Steel
DIN 17102 WStE 255 steel is a weldable fine-grained structural steel with heat-resistant properties. Its characteristics are as follows:
Heat-Resistant Performance: As part of the heat-resistant steel grade series denoted by the WStE prefix in the DIN 17102 standard, WStE 255 steel maintains stable mechanical properties and structural integrity under high-temperature conditions, making it suitable for engineering structures that need to withstand high temperatures.
Fine-Grained Structure: Through specific heat treatment processes and the addition of alloying elements, WStE 255 steel achieves a fine-grained microstructure. This fine-grained structure contributes to enhancing the steel's strength and toughness, enabling it to withstand significant loads and harsh working conditions.
Good Weldability: The DIN 17102 standard imposes stringent requirements on the weldability of steel. WStE 255 steel features a low carbon equivalent and crack sensitivity coefficient, making it compatible with various conventional welding processes, such as manual arc welding, submerged arc welding, and gas shielded arc welding. This helps reduce welding defects and improve the quality of welded joints.
High Strength and Toughness: WStE 255 steel exhibits high yield strength and tensile strength while maintaining good elongation and impact toughness. This enables it to maintain structural stability and safety while bearing substantial loads.
Wide Range of Applications: Due to its excellent performance characteristics, WStE 255 steel is widely used in fields such as construction, bridges, machinery manufacturing, and petrochemicals. For instance, it plays a crucial role in engineering structures such as steel frames for high-rise buildings, piers for cross-sea bridges, and crane booms.
