Recently, a reporter from China Metallurgical News learned from the Fire Protection and Corrosion Prevention Branch of China Steel Construction Society that the international standard ISO/17607-Execution of Structural Steelwork for the manufacture of steel structures was approved by representatives of various countries through voting. This move breaks standard barriers for China's structural steel to enter the international market.
The international standard consists of six independent parts, with the second part focusing on standards for structural steel materials. This part was led by Li Guoqiang, Vice President of China Steel Construction Society and Director of its Expert Committee, and also a professor at Tongji University. This section strictly stipulates the scope of application, terminology, symbols, execution specifications, quality requirements for structural steel used in steel structures, as well as relevant components of steel structures. In the appendix, it lists the standards of Chinese structural steel alongside those from major structural steel producing regions worldwide, including Europe, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, as steel standards that comply with this standard for use in steel structures.
It is reported that China's steel consumption for steel structures now exceeds 100 million tons per year. China's structural steel not only needs to expand its application scope domestically but also urgently needs to be exported internationally. This standard provides powerful support for China's steel products to gain international recognition and promote steel exports.
